Grand Slam Competition Saturday 15th March

York Elite England Squad Members Fraser Grice, Cayleigh McCartney, Rosa Kerr and Joseph Lines all competed in the 2014 Grand Slam event at Chesterfield on Saturday. The Grand Slam pits the national squad members from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales together across kata and kumite competition.

Grand Slam 150314

All four of our members performed fantastically on the day. Special mention though must go to Fraser and Cayleigh. Fraser not only won the Male Junior Kumite category but went on to captain England in winning the Team Competition. Cayleigh got a bronze in the Female Cadet Kumite class and was picked for the England Team which also went on to win their kumite competition.

North West Open - Saturday 01st March

On Sunday a group of York Elite Warriors went to the 45th North West Open Championships in Atherton. There were some fantastic performances from the girls but the boys stole the show this year.

James McNichol and Connor Dunckley took 2nd and 3rd places respectively in the 11-15 years kumite category which was really impressive given they were amongst the youngest in this category. Owen Dunckley continued the family tradition taking 3rd place in the boys kumite. Last but not least Mackenzie Hunter took fourth place in the pee-wee kata.

To round it all off Fraser Grice joined forces with Richard Backhouse and Ethan Armstrong of Leeds Shotokan Karate to win the Senior Mens Team Kumite.

Well done to all competitors for a great start to the year's competition circuit.

England Squad Selection

Congratulations to York Elite Karate-Ka Fraser Grice, Rosa Kerr, Cayeligh McCartney and Joseph Lines who were all selected to the England Kumite Squad at the trials held in Liverpool on Saturday 25th January. Then as if that wasn't enough Rosa Kerr went back on Saturday 01st February and was selected to the England Kata Squad.

Well done guys, everyone at the club is really proud of your achievement!
